What is the OC (Opportunity Class) test?

The Opportunity Class (OC) test is a NSW selection test sat by Year 4 students for entry into an Opportunity Class in Year 5. Opportunity Classes are for academically gifted and high-potential students and run in selected NSW public primary schools.

The test has three sections: Reading, Mathematical Reasoning, and Thinking Skills. It is a multiple-choice test that rewards comprehension, logical reasoning and the ability to work accurately under time pressure — not memorised facts.

Joey67 mirrors all three sections with bite-sized, gamified practice so your child builds familiarity and confidence without the stress of long workbook sessions.

  1. Mathematical ReasoningQuestion 1

A pack of stickers holds 8 stickers. Mia buys 6 packs and gives away 13 stickers. How many stickers does she have left?

    • A35
    • B37
    • C48
    • D41
    Show answer

    Answer: A 35

    6 packs × 8 = 48 stickers. After giving away 13: 48 − 13 = 35.

  2. Thinking SkillsQuestion 2

All Bloops are Razzies. Some Razzies are Lazzies. Which statement must be true?

    • AAll Bloops are Razzies.
    • BAll Razzies are Bloops.
    • CAll Lazzies are Bloops.
    • DNo Bloops are Lazzies.
    Show answer

Answer: A All Bloops are Razzies.

The first statement directly restates the given fact, so it must be true. The others add claims the premises do not support.

  3. Mathematical ReasoningQuestion 3

    What is the next number in the pattern: 3, 6, 12, 24, ___ ?

    • A30
    • B36
    • C48
    • D42
    Show answer

    Answer: C 48

    Each term doubles the one before (×2): 24 × 2 = 48.

  4. ReadingQuestion 4

“The old oak stood guard over the playground for a hundred years.” The word “guard” suggests the tree was:

    • Adangerous to the children
    • Bprotective and constant
    • Cabout to fall down
    • Drecently planted
    Show answer

    Answer: B protective and constant

“Stood guard” and “a hundred years” paint the tree as a steady, protective presence — protective and constant.
